Prior to establishing a private practice, I worked 39 years in education, initially as a special education teacher (which provided me with skills in observation/evaluation) and then as a school counselor at the elementary and middle school levels. Supporting parents has been an integral part of my work. My Bachelors Degree in Education was obtained at the University of Massachusetts/ Amherst and a Masters Degree in Special Education and a Masters Degree in Counseling were both obtained at the University of Maine/Orono.
I am a member of the Association for Play Therapy both at the national level and the New England branch.
As a registered play therapist, I have a fondness and belief in the power of play. Being a strong advocate of non-directive play therapy models, namely Child-Centered and Synergetic Play Therapy, I believe that play is the language as well as the work of the child. Magic does happen in the special playroom!
