Personal Information
Paula Shelner joined the practice of Lindsay South and Associates after working for six years as a children's therapist at St. Joseph Community Mental Health. She is a graduate of Western Michigan University’s School of Social Work. Paula is passionate about working with kids, families and adults. She loves using play, art and sand tray therapy to help people grow in their journey towards understanding themselves. Paula is an open minded, non-judgmental presence in therapy. Although Paula has received training in many evidenced based practices, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), she draws from treatment models that are tailored for each individual or family. Paula also has advanced training in the Nurtured Heart Approach, a parenting approach for intense kids. Paula makes an effort to work evenings to accommodate schedules of kids and working adults.
More Information

When children come to therapy they need to feel safe and enjoy the experience while learning skills to improve how they feel about their self. When families come to therapy, they look for guidance from an experienced therapist who will join with their family in a nonjudgemental way to allow their family to build on their strengths. When adults come to therapy they need to engage in a relationship with their therapist that helps them safely tell their story so they can make heal, which promotes positive change. As a therapist I promote safety, honesty, compassion and playful learning.
