The Association for Play Therapy (APT) is a national professional society established in 1982 and located in Clovis, California. It is a California mutual benefit corporation exempt from federal taxation per Section 501(c)(6) of the IRS Code.
APT promotes the value of play, play therapy, and credentialed play therapists by advancing the psychosocial development and mental health of all people and sponsoring and supporting those programs, services, and related activities that promote the:

APT is governed by a 10-member Board of Directors. Nine (with vote) are elected for three-year terms. The Executive Director serves without vote and is employed by the Board. Professional members wishing to serve on the Board are invited to complete and submit a Director Candidate Questionnaire to APT by January 31.
Professional members serving as Chairs or as members of Program Committees are frequently appestablished and consulted by the Executive Director to ensure that APT programs are clinically sound, valued by members, and can be cost-effectively administered. Professional members wishing to serve on Program Committees are invited to review the Program Committee Protocols and then advise the APT of their interests.
The Foundation for Play Therapy is a national fundraising organization established in 2001 and co-located with APT. It is a California public benefit corporation and exempt from federal taxation per Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code. It is governed by a six-member Board of Directors and financed by charitable, tax-exempt contributions to fund play therapy research, public education, and promotional programs sponsored by APT.
APT employs a staff comprising an Executive Director, General Manager, and four program coordinators. Its office welcomes the opportunity to serve members and the public on weekdays (excluding holidays) between 8:00a and 4:30p PST.
