In A Nutshell
- Play therapy is a form of counseling used by licensed mental health professionals to better communicate with and address certain mental disorders and behavioral problems of developmentally appropriate clients, especially children. - The Association for Play Therapy was established in 1982 as a non-profit national professional society to advance play therapy research and practice. It sponsors continuing education, credentialing, and other programs to serve its member psychologists, counselors, school psychologists and counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists in the US and 25 other nations. - Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor (RPT-S) credentials are conferred by APT to licensed mental health professionals who have satisfied extensive education, training, experiential, and supervision criteria.
