The Association for Play Therapy (APT) is a national professional society established in 1982 to foster contact among mental health professionals interested in exploring and, when developmentally appropriate, applying the therapeutic power of play to communicate with and treat clients, particularly children.

APT strongly condemns violence against humanity, especially children. We mourn the most recent school shootings and all senseless acts of violence throughout the world.

APT is committed to continuing our role of providing relevant resources to our members. We encourage our members to continue to provide high quality mental health services and strong advocacy for their clients.

In these troubled times, we are collectively committed to an ethic of personal and professional responsibility and engagement with our respective communities. Featured in Vol.27, No.2 of the International Journal of Play Therapy®, “Practitioner Experiences of Touch in Working With Children in Play Therapy,” Janet A. Courtney, PhD, LCSW, RPT-S and Angela F. Y. Siu, PhD, RP, explore the concept of touch. The article addresses the lack of literature, research, and professional concerns on touch, focusing on mental health professionals’ attitudes, perception, and education on touch.
