2018 Annual Conference

Call for Proposals

 

The Association for Play Therapy (APT) is now accepting proposals for workshops and poster presentations related to the field of play therapy for the Annual APT International Conference, October 3-7, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. Proposals delineating ALL models of theory, practice, and research in play therapy are encouraged. Proposal undergo a blind review by the Conference Program Committee. Specific topic areas of interest for 2018 are:

  • Trauma
  • Supervisor Training
  • Art in Play Therapy
  • Play Interpretation
  • Brain Related Topics
  • Sand Tray Therapy
  • Ethical Issues
  • Attachment Issues
  • Family Play Therapy
  • Play Diagnosis and Assessment

To make your submission process seamless, have the following items ready:

Presenter Information

  • Each presenter’s contact information, credentials, and title.
    • Presenters/co-presenters must have a master’s degree or higher.
    • Workshops are limited to a maximum of two (2) speakers. The Conference Program Committee may consider more than two speakers for a panel discussion if the topic warrants.
  • A brief biography for each presenter (45 words maximum).
  • Current vita and photo for each presenter.

 

Presentation Details

  • Presentation title.
  • Workshop overview. A brief description (40 words maximum) of your presentation to be included in the conference brochure and website.
  • Workshop abstract. A summary (250 words maximum) which MUST include theoretical framework.
  • Learning objectives. Measurable objectives that describe what the attendee will know or be able to do as a result of attending this workshop. See APA’s document “Writing Behavioral Learning Objectives and Assessments” for guidance.
    • 4 objectives for 1-4 hour proposal
    • 6 objectives for 5-6 hour proposal 
  • Citation for 3-5 sources. At least two (2) of which must be published within the past 5 years, that support the content of your program (no more than 1 can be your own).
  • Exam questions (5 required).
  • If applicable, a summary (50 words maximum) of how this presentation addresses and expands the play therapist's multicultural competency.
  • A brief description of how you will use your time (i.e. lecture, PowerPoint, group discussion, experiential, etc.).
  • Presentation length, level, content focus, and theoretical basis.

Ready to submit a proposal?

Our process is entirely online using a new platform called CATALYST. Follow the instructions below to create an account:

 

  • Access the CATALYST website.
  • Create an account in CATALYST by selecting the “Create Account” tab.
  • Check your email for a confirmation of your new account. From this email message, click “Confirm Account” to finish creating your account.
  • You will be redirected to the CATALYST login page. Enter your username and password and you will arrive at the “Instructions” page of the submission form.

You will have the ability to save your progress, share your proposal with a co-presenter and make edits up until the deadline, January 25, 2018.
