National Play Therapy Week
Share |

National Play Therapy Week is February 2nd through the 8th. This is a time we go above and beyond in our efforts to promote the value of play, play therapy, credentialed play therapists, and the Association for Play Therapy. There is more evidence now than ever that children need play in order to live healthy lives, and play therapy is improving children's mental health and overall well-being all over the world. We know it; you know it; now let's get out there and make sure everyone knows it!

APT wants to hear your story! What is your favorite play therapy memory? When were you first exposed to play therapy? What has driven you to pursue play therapy in your career? Whether an established play therapist or new to the field, your unique experiences are what make the Association great! Submit a short video (20-30 seconds) that shares your personal play therapy journey and it might be featured during National Play Therapy Week.

Ideas for promoting National Play Therapy Week in Your Community:

  • Send out news release to your local paper announcing National Play Therapy week activities in your community.

  • Share these YouTube videos: “Play Therapy Works”, “Introducing Andrew”, or "Meet Andres" (Spanish) with family, friends, and colleagues via Facebook, Twitter, and other social media including your local media.

  • Share your photo on social media using the signs "I Use Play Therapy Because.." and "I Am a Registered Play Therapist Because..".

  • Order the Foundation for Play Therapy's Why Play Therapy? Pediatrician Brochure and distribute them to medical professionals in your community!

  • Contribute to the Foundation for Play Therapy by making a tax-exempt charitable contribution toward funding research initiatives.  Show your support by purchasing products like a car magnetPlay Therapy Works” or “My Work is Child's Play” - proceeds go directly to the Foundation.

  • Arrange for you or a colleague to be interviewed by a local paper or station, highlighting your work as a play therapist.

  • Offer to present a workshop on play therapy at your place of employment.

  • Order and distribute FREE "Why Play Therapy" brochures (English, Spanish, or French) from the APT Store.

  • Share APT's Parents Corner with your clients. This page serves as a great resource for introducing play therapy and child mental health to parents and caregivers.
